Fortunately I have a choice of dotty material. What to do with all these fantastic pieces - so different and yet so similar? Can't wait to wear this elongated conglomeration of small circles. For more items of interest (perhaps) see my Etsy shop called creatifbitsnpieces. Thank you for your comments!

This scarf has undergone many processes……… First the silk was bathed in Japanese tea giving the silk an “aged look”. Next the silk was ironed into sharp folds and the edges of the folds were dipped into Japanese ink and allowed to dry. After re-ironing to secure the colours, a story of impressionism, abstract painting, the advent of Australian painting and short descriptions of twentieth century art and artists was handwritten on to the silk. The weight of the edges give the scarf body and effect draping around the neck of such a lightweight fabric. The black edges were sewn using rescued old kimono silk giving a fitting finish to this unusual accessory. After final laundering the scarf was allowed to dry with its creases to add more character. The scarf measures 42cm x 165cm. See creatifbitsnpieces on Etsy.
This vintage style oriental dress bag has been recycled from a table runner. The fabric is as new with no stains or sign of wear. The fabric is synthetic with machine embroidered roses and dragons. In the background there are oriental motives woven into the fabric. It is a tote designed bag with opening at the top. The top is finished off by a flap and a matching handmade rose which adds decorative interest. The bag measures 34cm x 35cm with 36cm handles which is good dress size and would complement an outfit in primary coloured fabric. This bag has been lined in embroidered synthetic fabric and two pockets have been sewn inside. Ideal as a gift or an attractive accessory. It comes gift wrapped. See at creatifbitsnpieces on Etsy.

I'm trying to create some interest, texture, coordination of colour and of course use left over or discarded fabric scraps rather than throw them out. I've matched these different fabrics of silk, denim, cotton, canvas, Chinese embroidery, curtain fabric etc, puffed them up with synthetic filling and sewn them on to an unpicked linen garment. I intend to sew several panels of these bits and pieces together to make a bed cover or a warm and creative quilt. Of course, there are plenty of raw edges, crooked seams, over stitching, uneven quilting, rough pulls of the fabric BUT how enjoyable it is to break the rules and create something different and useful!
One of the most interesting things I like to do is to go quality fabric hunting. Invariably you always come across something you've always wanted but either forgotten about or put it at the bottom of the shopping list. This happened when I spotted a valance for our bed still in it's packet, unused and untouched, and for a fraction of the retail price. Also there are various books and CDs overflowing the shelves so it can all get very exciting. Sometimes I buy items I might never see again, such as these exquisite table runners complete with tassels. They are of synthetic fabric and machine embroidered but unique enough to purchase to make some attractive clutch bags. Oriental designs and fabric were very popular in the 1930s. These table runners show no signs of use so there are no stains or signs of wear. |
