This scarf has undergone many processes……… First the silk was bathed in Japanese tea giving the silk an “aged look”. Next the silk was ironed into sharp folds and the edges of the folds were dipped into Japanese ink and allowed to dry. After re-ironing to secure the colours, a story of impressionism, abstract painting, the advent of Australian painting and short descriptions of twentieth century art and artists was handwritten on to the silk. The weight of the edges give the scarf body and effect draping around the neck of such a lightweight fabric. The black edges were sewn using rescued old kimono silk giving a fitting finish to this unusual accessory. After final laundering the scarf was allowed to dry with its creases to add more character. The scarf measures 42cm x 165cm. See creatifbitsnpieces on Etsy.
