This small clutch has been sewn from coarse Japanese cotton. The fabric is very rich and has been dyed with indigo plant dye. I have bound together strips of this fabric to give it texture and interest. The middle panel is shibori silk and the closure is Velcro. I have lined the clutch with shibori fabric taken from an unused tablecoth. Shibori designs go way back in Japanese history when the poor dyed their clothes to give them new life. Those clothes would be highly thought of and sought after by collectors today.
